Film Review: Hausu House 1977 HNN

house japanese movie

On this, Obayashi said, “adults only think about things they understand … everything stays on that boring human level” while “children can come up with things that can’t be explained”. By having his daughter’s insights on the film, Obayashi was able to come up with some of his most surreal scenes, like a haunted piano and a mirror’s reflection attacking the viewer. Now, if all this sounds like style over substance to you, that wouldn’t be an entirely unfair assessment. After all, House is ostensibly a horror film and, although often a little creepy, it’s never truly scary; it’s much too excitable to establish any considerable dread or tension. But as with many other ‘midnight movies’ of the period, the style itself proves substantive, offering viewers a spooky, funny and often downright trippy ghost-train ride. There’s also some subplot involving a professor, a bucket, bananas, and a poltergeist but I’ll leave that to you, dear reader, to decipher.

Quite the contrary, there are outlandish visuals and moments in the film that will make the audience wonder how the heck that even happened, like a man turning into a pile of bananas. The visual wonder of ‘Hausu’ will keep audiences glued to the screen while causing them to never expect what will happen next. Upstairs in the house, Kung Fu and Prof find Gorgeous wearing a bridal gown, who then reveals her aunt's diary to them. Kung Fu follows Gorgeous as she leaves the room, only to find Sweet's body trapped in a grandfather clock, which starts bleeding profusely. Panic-driven, the remaining girls barricade the upper part of the house while Prof, Fantasy and Kung Fu read the aunt's diary. When Fantasy goes to retrieve the watermelon from the well, she finds Mac's disembodied head, which flies in the air and bites Fantasy's buttocks before she escapes.

Commercial director Obayashi came up with a story inspired by his daughter's nightmares, and with presumptuous rogue campaigning and promotion that hyped the film and got him signed to direct, he took the helm of one of the most unusual pieces of cinema to ever be created. It’s a film that is as frustrating as it is enlightening; perhaps a misguided masterpiece, perhaps excessively self-indulgent, but more creative and comprised of more vision than most of the horror films made in the past thirty years. To read this, one might think that this were a horrible film and in a way it is, however, Obayashi is very self-aware and uses the lackluster/subpar cast and limited budget to his advantage. He does not attempt to obscure the shortcomings of his resources and this is a respectable twist on making the most of what one’s stuck with.

"People are getting more and more interested in Japanese culture," says Executive Director Kazumi Teune. "Our mission is to share the Japanese culture in Philadelphia. People are embracing shogun culture, anime, samurai, sake and it's all here. Throughout the year we have programs that celebrate the Japanese culture." We are a cultural charity, a National Lottery funding distributor, and the UK’s lead organisation for film and the moving image. Gorgeous tells Ryoko that her friends will wake up soon and that they will be hungry.

House was filmed on one of Toho’s largest sets, where Obayashi shot the film without a storyboard over a period of about two months. House’s twisted fairytale quality is further heightened by its storybook aesthetic and playful visual approach. Obayashi’s background in advertising shines through here, his compositions often possessing a boldly graphic pop-art quality. Utilising techniques as diverse as stop-motion, hand-drawn animation, picture-in-picture and liberal use of nascent chroma key effects, House’s visual flare is dizzying. But “something like Jaws” would be the director’s first foray into feature films and, hoping to capture the imagination of the youth market, he enlisted his young daughter Chigumi when developing the concept that would become House. The Evil Dead meets Yellow Submarine in Nobuhiko Obayashi’s House, an eye-poppingly hyper-real old-dark-house movie that resembles a haunted pop-up book.

The film, with its vibrant colors and confusing editing, doesn’t look like our reality. The film, not looking like our version of reality, takes the viewers on an immersive journey into the unknown. After the blockbuster success of Jaws, the Toho studio wanted to produce a Japanese competitor in that market.

‘Hausu’ makes you feel like you’re tripping at a Halloween party in the best way possible. Moreover, it was perhaps Chigumi’s input that began moving the project further and further away from Toho’s initial brief, imbuing the emerging story with a certain dream logic. At times House almost feels like a children’s film, its opening scenes featuring broad slapstick, a cheesy pop song and endless girlish giggling. ‘Hausu’ isn’t one of those movies that is “so bad that it’s good” because its look is fully intentional, it doesn’t look this way due to a lack of budget like other cult classics such as ‘Troll 2’. It instead looks like a children’s Halloween themed pop-up book because of the film’s inspiration. While making the film, Obayashi regularly talked to his pre-teen daughter about what scary ideas she thought should be in the movie.

A Parody of Hollywood Horror Films

The aunt disappears after entering the broken refrigerator, and the girls are attacked or possessed by a series of items in the house, such as Gorgeous becoming possessed after using her aunt's mirror and Sweet disappearing after being attacked by mattresses. The girls try to escape the house, but after Gorgeous is able to leave through a door, the rest of the girls find themselves locked in. The girls try to find the aunt to unlock the door but discover Mac's severed hand in a jar. Melody begins to play the piano to keep the girls' spirits up and they hear Gorgeous singing upstairs. As Prof and Kung Fu go to investigate, Melody's fingers are bitten off by the piano, and it ultimately eats her whole.

ハウス Hausu

During its opening titles, Nobuhiko Obayashi’s House (Hausu, 1977) introduces itself on screen as “a movie”, briskly knocking down the fourth wall before the action has even begun. This slyly knowing gesture at the film’s outset serves as a statement of intent, with everything in House reinforcing a sense of hyper-cinematic unreality, from its painted skies and candy-coloured palette to its hyperactive editing and every-trick-in-the-book visual effects. A schoolgirl travels with six of her classmates to her ailing aunt’s creaky, remote country home, where supernatural events occur almost immediately. They come face to face with evil spirits, bloodthirsty pianos, and a demonic housecat. The reading is interrupted by the giant-sized head of Gorgeous, who reveals that her aunt died many years ago while waiting for her fiancé to return from World War II.

The pretty but pensive Gorgeous is joined by Prof (brainy), Kung Fu (violent), Fantasy (a daydreamer), Sweet (homely), Melody (musical) and the ever-eating Mac (short for ‘stomach’) on a summer trip to her aunt’s creaky old house in the countryside. The result plays like a head-on collision between The Evil Dead (1981) and Yellow Submarine (1968) – a fevered flight of horror-fantasy like no other. “A movie” is right, for few films have as much fun simply being a movie as House does.

I had a hard time getting into it but when it finally kicks in...it really kicks in. Seven girls on their summer trip pay a visit to a possessed house which plans to eat them in extremely bizzare and surreal ways. There is, however, something underpinning all the madness, a quietly melancholic undercurrent that ultimately elevates the film.

‘Hausu’ is the funnest haunted house movie ever made thanks to its trippy visuals and playful nature. It plays homage to the typical haunted house story while turning its tropes and visual style on its head. With its bright colors, hybrid of different visual effects, and rapid editing, ‘Hausu’ is a film that one can’t look away from. It will keep you glued to the screen and wondering both what will happen next and how we even got here in the first place. Hausu is a gleeful and playful look at the demented, a fun and engaging experience that any horror fan will love. While ‘Hausu’ is an extremely rewatchable film no one will forget their first time watching the mind-bending treat.

The encounter is initially disregarded by the other girls, but over time they also begin to encounter other supernatural traps throughout the house. Influenced by ideas from his daughter Chigumi, he developed ideas for a script by Chiho Katsura. After the project was green-lit, it was put on hold for two years as no one at Toho wanted to direct it. However, Obayashi kept promoting the film until the studio allowed him to direct it himself.

A decapitated head in a wishing well, a piano that eats its player, and a dancing skeleton. While this may sound like a list of random spooky story ideas, these are all scenes in ‘Hausu’, the 1977 Japanese film by Nobuhiko Obayashi. ‘Hausu’ may have been criticized when it was first released, but it has since become a cult classic, especially among the film buff community. Interestingly enough, the horror film is not admired for being scary but is instead admired for being fun and quirky thanks to its trippy visuals and off-color humor.

As the video essayist is keen to note, Ôbayashi Sr., a Hiroshima survivor, had plenty of his own childhood trauma to draw upon. And the ultimate impression is of a father-daughter duo working through the things that scare them on-screen (be it cannibalistic pianos to losing your friends to an unfathomable catastrophe). Welcome to The Queue — your daily distraction of curated video content sourced from across the web. Today, we’re watching a video essay that looks at the making of the Japanese 1977 horror movie House. The unpredictable quality of the film adds to the horror since the audience never truly knows what to expect. There is not one moment in the film that will make the audience roll their eyes and say “of course, I saw that coming a mile away”.

To add to the absurdity, characters are named after singular traits which define them throughout the film such as Melody who plays the piano, Fanta the daydreamer, and Mac the glutton. Following this, she shrugs and sighs, musing, “It must have been my imagination.” She continues on as if nothing ever happened and the scene is never referenced again. The film is chockfull of scenes like this and it will either captivate or infuriate the viewer to no end. Like a cat which materializes one day on Oshare’s window sill, spews blood in another scene, and plays the piano in reverse.

Horror News Confidential w/ American Horrors’ Hart Fisher, June 5th at 9pm EST

There’s a central musical theme that reoccurs through the film which is fantastic, but some directorial choices are ineffective (it is only Obayashi’s debut after all). The art design is meticulous as is the sound, but the acting is horrid most of the time. The story of Hausu was a radio hit following relentless promotion by writer/director Obayashi which persuaded Toho studio to adapt it into a feature film. It is often cited as a precursor to Evil Dead 2, but given that it was released in 1977 and the fact that it was almost never made makes this eclectic horror romp rather impressive and more than just a little influential to horror cinema in general. The surreal comedy-horror bit is often trumped by absurdist melodrama with an incomprehensible plot encompassing demonic possession, ESP, telekinesis, and cannibalism.

They come face to face with evil spirits, bloodthirsty pianos, and a demonic housecat. The reading is interrupted by the giant-sized head of Gorgeous, who reveals that her aunt died many years ago while waiting for her fiancé to return from World War II.

Obayashi was a director of TV commercials before this full-length feature and in many ways it shows. There is a glossy glow to everything and an obsessive attention to detail that allows even his greatest missteps to seem somehow intentional and (usually) technically sound. The editing is equally exuberant, whether it’s the rapid-fire cutting as Kung Fu leaps into action, or the endlessly inventive scene transitions, which lead the film to unfold with the eerie grace of a haunted pop-up book. The oft-repeated origin story for House tells of a Japanese studio, the legendary Toho company, eager to replicate the runaway success of Steven Spielberg’s recently released Jaws (1975). Indeed, “something like Jaws” seems to have been the entirety of Toho’s brief to Obayashi, then best-known as a director of TV commercials. Obayashi’s darkly comic fable tells the story of seven schoolgirls, each of them named for their defining attribute, à la Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).

As Prof and Kung Fu go to investigate, Melody's fingers are bitten off by the piano, and it ultimately eats her whole.

Storyline

Kung Fu's legs manage to escape and damage the painting of Blanche on the wall, which in turn kills Blanche physically. Prof tries to read the diary, but a jar with teeth pulls her into the blood, where she dissolves. Gorgeous appears as her aunt in the reflection in the blood and then cradles Fantasy. Japanese live-action streaming series have struggled to match the global impact of South Korean rivals such as “Squid Game” and “Crash Landing on You.” However, the recent Japan-based shows “Tokyo Vice” and “Shogun” have become popular with international streaming audiences. Both are made by multinational production teams that reject the nearly exclusive domestic focus of the usual drama series backed by consortiums of media companies that have little interest in the overseas market.

Despite Auntie’s hermetic lifestyle and tragic wartime backstory (her fighter-pilot fiancé never returned to marry her), she is far from the Miss Havisham type. The girls find both her and the titular house perfectly charming upon their arrival. But with spooky happenings around the house and the visiting party starting to shrink in numbers, both home and homeowner reveal their sinister true natures. Not to be confused with the American haunted house movie called House, or that other House who's a snarky doctor. The visual style of ‘Hausu’ can’t be explained with rational thinking since children can come up with things that can’t be explained like an adult can. This unexplainable style with little to no logic also adds to the horror of the film.

The Evil Dead meets Yellow Submarine in Nobuhiko Obayashi’s House, an eye-poppingly hyper-real old-dark-house movie that resembles a haunted pop-up book.

It is as if the film takes what we expect from a regular haunted house movie and gives us the exact opposite, a funhouse mirror look at the tropes we have become accustomed to. The visual wonder of ‘Hausu’ comes from how the film avoids realism in favor of outlandish imagery and surrealism. The visual approach in the film is more based on a childish playfulness than a desire to look realistic. Obayashi does every trick in the books for the visual effects of the film, from animation mixed with live action to rapid-paced editing to whatever this is. While this visual style may seem disorienting at first, it soon immerses the audience in a viewing experience like no other. In a world where every horror film is trying to be more realistic than the last, ‘Hausu’ is a refreshing change of pace, favoring a child-like whimsy to the boring reality that we live in.

Sliding Driveway Gates: Pros and Cons + Design Ideas

sliding fence gate design

This gate would look beautiful as an entry to a vegetable patch or garden path. Made from naturally durable red cedar, the wood resists decay, fungi and insects. This feature has enabled automation of the sliding door using mobile-control options that include GSM intercom. An innovative technology designed to help the user to open and close the gate with even greater ease and without compromising the safety and security of your home. For enhanced security, a gate that compliments the size and the slope of our driveways.

What Are The Different Types Of Sliding Gates?

With the right tools and materials, you can build your sliding gate, saving time and money. Home Depot offers a sliding fence kit that includes a gate, hardware, and fence panels. This kit is available in various sizes and materials, such as aluminum, wood, and vinyl, ensuring there is an option for every homeowner. The kit is easy to install and provides a sleek and modern look while also providing the necessary security to keep intruders out. Enhance the aesthetic appeal of your property by installing vertical ironwood gates.

Benefits of a Sliding Driveway Gate In Los Angeles

Sliding gates move side to side whereas swing gates swing out and in via a sweeping arc motion. Wood is one of the most natural and sturdiest building materials to get your hands on so it makes a lot of sense why you can opt for a wooden sliding gate, to begin with. An integrated intercom system is a feature that allows you to communicate with visitors or guests who are outside your sliding fence gate. Composite panels are made of synthetic materials that mimic the appearance of wood or other natural materials.

Jacuzzi vs Hot Tub (Differences, Cost & Features)

Sliding fence gates are more secure than swinging gates, as they are harder to break into or tamper with. They also provide more privacy, as they can cover the entire width of your fence without leaving any gaps. You can choose from different materials and designs to create a sliding fence gate that matches your desired level of security and privacy. But these fence gates can be more expensive than the traditional ones. They are quite easy to install and operate, with very little manual intervention. Even if you have uneven ground or a steep slope, sliding gates work like a charm.

Composite panels are ideal for sliding or rolling gates that require low maintenance and high durability. Composite panels are resistant to rotting, warping, cracking, fading, or staining. However, composite panels can be expensive and may not look as realistic as natural materials.

To fasten the track to the wood I used wood screws and galvanized nails. Ensure that you also have other information about the gate, whether it’s custom-made or from a catalog. Data sheets that include information like the gate weight and part numbers can be very useful if you need to automate your gate or make any repairs.

Red Doors

However, they can be more expensive than sliding gates and take longer to install. Additionally, swing cantilever gates need enough space to open and close, making them unsuitable for properties with limited space. Solid Sliding Gate IdeasWhen it comes to sliding gates, you might want something sturdy and secure.

It’s the perfect wood if you plan on staining or painting your structure. One thing to keep in mind though is that there’s a reason why pine wood can come at such cheap prices. Before you proceed with this option though, it’s important to note that not all woods are alike. They each have their own traits as well as their own strengths and weaknesses to consider. This provides heightened security and safety to those who are inside.

Aluminum sliding gate

For the other side of the fence, either build an end post (if needed) or modify the existing part of the fence so that the sliding door can be supported and, if wanted, locked. Next, grab your trolley wheels/casters, and attach the “bottom” of the sliding door. Casters will not only add stability to the gate but will also enable it to slide smoothly and predictably.

A cantilever gate is another alternative to sliding gates for areas with uneven terrain. The ideal alternative to a sliding gate is a cantilever gate, as it is not affected by landscape features and is easy to maintain. Unlike traditional sliding gates, cantilever gates do not require regular cleaning of tracks. ConclusionSliding gates are a great investment for any property owner. Whether you’re looking for a residential gate, a simple design for a small area, or a solid gate for added security, there are plenty of options available. By choosing the right design and material, your sliding gate can not only enhance the look of your property but also serve as an effective security measure for your home or business.

Again, using color in a fencing idea is a great way to add so much character to the simplest designs. The rock walls parallel to the gate bring in the texture and natural element to the scene since this gate seems to be predominantly made of steel or metal. Most sliding gates do have to be metal since they typically slide into an adjoining metal sheath. Proper maintenance and upkeep are crucial to ensure the longevity and smooth operation of sliding gates. In addition to regular cleaning, applying lubricant to the moving parts and checking for any damages should be part of the maintenance routine.

This is an electric sliding fence gate, which is a perfect way to safeguard your property. The door works in a cantilever style, which makes it easy to install on any terrain. The simple, yet sophisticated design restricts unauthorized entries while enabling access to view outside movements. Exploring outdoor sliding gate designs opens up a world of possibilities for enhancing your property’s exterior. From sleek, modern aesthetics to more traditional looks, there’s a design to fit every taste and requirement, adding both functionality and charm. Modern sliding gates are known for their sleek and contemporary design.

No matter what you chose electric, remote control, or both, an automatic sliding gate is a valuable investment in your property. Many remote options can be incorporated with your automatic gate, including automated remote access control operated with a smartphone or computer. You can easily check and grant entry from inside your home or even remotely while travelling or vacationing. Family Handyman is a trusted source for DIY projects, and they have an excellent article on building your sliding gate. The article provides step-by-step instructions and pictures to help you build your gate quickly and easily. Additionally, they offer tips on how to choose the right materials and tools for the job.

Try it out or just mix and match various elements you’ve seen throughout the article and come up with something completely unique. The tiny metalwork winds and twists like an actual vine growing across the façade of this historic building. The fence is short but brings so much to the structure and area by way of its creative make. This is a great example of how you can make even a short fence incredibly detailed and interesting. Working with the space you have has never been easier when it comes to this design in contemporary fencing.

While Edward was away, Bella found that Jacob's presence soothed the "hole" in her chest that resulted from Edward leaving her. Being around Jacob brought a measure of happiness back to Bella's life, though he was unable to replace Edward. Bella felt that Jacob was a good friend, and that he was her own "personal little sun" which would beam happiness in every direction wherever he went.

Her features are also heightened and perfected by the transformation. Bella is described as having a very pale complexion with long, straight, dark brown hair, a widow's peak, unique chocolate brown eyes and a heart-shaped face with a wide forehead. Her eyebrows are darker than her hair and are straighter than they are arched. As such, even before she became a vampire and inherited god-like beauty, Bella was rather pretty, as she unintentionally attracted the attention of several boys in school, not just Edward. The wedding goes smoothly, and Bella meets the Denali coven for the first time.

Bella adjusts to her new life extremely well, going as far as to think she was destined to be a vampire. Bella's body is nearly destroyed in the process—with several ribs broken, she loses vast amounts of blood, and her spinal cord is snapped. Seeing the baby is a girl, Bella names her "Renesmee" right before her heart stops beating. Edward then injects her heart with his own venom and bites her body in several places, effectively initiating Bella's transformation into a vampire. Jacob goes to kill Renesmee since he believes she killed Bella, but when he looks her in the eyes, he imprints on her instead. Her baby develops at an extremely fast rate, and she becomes very sick.

The neighbors may not have been thrilled with what the home became but it looks like something really fun to see in person. This adorable home stands out on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica. The rumor is that this house was owned by Ruth Handler, the creator of Barbie.

And set up an encampment in the middle of campus, no matter what the rules say. And this is not representative of the vast majority of the protesters in the encampment, who mostly had been peaceful. They would later hold a Seder, actually, with some of the pro-Palestinian Jewish protesters in their ranks. But those videos are reaching members of Congress, the very same Republicans that Shafik had testified in front of just a few days before. And now they’re looking and saying, you have lost control of your campus, you’ve turned back on your word to us, and you need to resign.

Plan 5345

Because there are so many house plans on the market, it is easy to get overwhelmed while you are browsing them. With such an abundance of options to choose from, you’ll have a hard time making a final choice. Some of them have a lot to offer but because their price is too expensive, there is not much value for the money. There’s also a 4’8″x7’2″ walk-in closet included where you can store your wardrobe.

One of the most notable architectural features of contemporary house plans is the use of large windows and open spaces. These homes often feature floor to ceiling windows, skylights, and glass walls, which help to maximize natural light and provide stunning panoramic views of the outdoors. The use of open spaces, such as great rooms and open-concept kitchens, creates a sense of flow and spaciousness, making these homes perfect for entertaining and modern living. In summary, modern home designs are characterized by their sleek and contemporary design aesthetic, with a focus on natural materials, modern architecture, open spaces, and natural light. These homes are designed to be functional and efficient, with an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living and modern living.

Plan: #108-1923

But they are now in league with a whole bunch of other universities that are struggling with the same set of questions. And it’s a set of questions that they’ve had since this war broke out. And these encampments have now started cropping up at universities from coast-to-coast, at Harvard and Yale, but also at University of California, at the University of Texas, at smaller campuses in between. And at each of these institutions, there’s presidents and deans, just like President Shafik at Columbia, who are facing a really difficult set of choices.

What is a modern house plan?

But there was one question that really embodied the kind of disconnect between the Committee — And it wasn’t just Republicans, Republicans and Democrats on the Committee — and these college presidents. This is “The Daily.” Today, the story of how Columbia University has become the epicenter of a growing showdown between student protesters, college administrators, and Congress over the war in Gaza and the limits of free speech. Tagliaferri is something of an Italian treasure himself.

Lastly, don’t underestimate the power of well-thought-out storage solutions, statement pieces, and trendy textiles when it comes to elevating your home. From Art Deco to the iconic Brady Bunch home, Modern house plans have been on the American home scene for decades and will continue offering alternative expressions for today's homeowners. Modern house plans cover many ideas, concepts, and principles available in the home design industry. Many home designs in this category feature a look and feel that expresses a value for energy efficiency, unique use of space, and exterior and interior features of a modern persuasion.

The coffee table is a 1930s antique from Galerie Half. In 1961, John Lautner designed the West Hollywood home for interior designer and concert pianist Marco Wolff. For Lautner, who had apprenticed under Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930s, the home was an opportunity to flex his creative muscles. What began as an arduous and almost vertical plot of land resulted in, perhaps, the acme of midcentury-modern residential architecture on the West Coast.

Well, they remain under investigation by the committee. But also, as the winter wears on, all the same intense protests just continue unabated. So in many ways, Columbia’s like these other campuses.

Highly functional layouts that waste no space thanks to their smart floor plans and well-thought amenities. Whether you’re looking for a large family home with a lot of square footage, a small modern house plan or something more trendy like a modern farmhouse, you’ll find it in our collection. We work with our designers to provide the plans that best represent modern architecture. Palm trees and Pacific Ocean views aside, California’s spectacular midcentury-modern homes are one of its most memorable sights. Even though the style cropped up all over the U.S. during the middle part of the 20th century, the design vernacular’s emphasis on indoor-outdoor living has always been particularly well-suited to the Southern California climate.

To make your space feel larger, you can strategically place mirrors to expand dimensions. Of course, furniture and decor play a large part in the feel of luxury. Furniture choices should be deliberate and multi-functional, such as ottomans with hidden storage or sleek wall-mounted shelves. Invest in quality pieces with timeless design and impeccable craftsmanship, elevating the overall ambiance. Accent lighting is possibly one of the most luxurious things; think crystal chandeliers or Modern pendant lights can become stunning focal points. When it comes to luxury, it’s all about the finer details; with thoughtful and creative choices, your small abode can be a space that feels both indulgent and intimate.

Original Bella Swan’s House From Twilight

Stewart's portrayal of Diana, Princess of Wales in Pablo Larraín's biographical drama Spencer (2021) earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. This home and park have such a wonderful variety of activities for visitors. You can tour the home (during non-covid times), go horseback riding, hiking, attend movie nights over the summer, and polo games. Will Rogers was a popular actor in the early days of Hollywood. In the 1920’s he bought land in Santa Monica and his 359 acres included some land that would later become part of Pacific Palisades.

Powers and abilities

Although she still chose immortality over mortality, Rosalie volunteered to help do Bella's hair on her wedding day. Rosalie initially disliked her for the attention she was receiving from Edward, and later for wanting to become a vampire; something she would never have considered if she'd had a choice. Her dislike of Bella began to fade a little bit after she risked her life to save Edward from committing suicide, but she still wanted her to remain human. Aside from Edward and Renesmee, she is the closest to her in the Cullen family.

TWILIGHT FILMING LOCATION Bella’s Arizona House in L.A.

Visiting the grounds of this beautiful mansion is a favorite of both locals and tourists. It is free to visit the grounds though occasionally the opportunity will become available to tour the inside for a fee. You can read about my visit here in my post on Greystone Mansion. There are so many incredible famous houses in Los Angeles. Some of the houses are famous because of the architecture while others are famous for being used in movies and tv shows. There are so many different ways that we are spoiled in Southern California but the incredible variety of homes that we can visit is truly something special.

Bella Swan's Twilight House Is Now Available to Rent on Airbnb

After winding through a family neighborhood we came to it. It had been painted back to it’s original color and there were lots of cars and trucks parked out front. The lot next to it was still vacant with the view of the “desert” and mountains. While I was taking pictures a neighbor across the street started chatting with me and said that none of them were paid much at the time of filming. The production people had asked him to use his house for the cast while filming, but he had refused. His funny story was that during the filming he was working on painting a car in his garage and the noise from the air compressor was interrupting the filming.

She has a habit of biting her lip, which she shares with Kristen Stewart. As a human, Bella easily fainted at the sight or smell of blood, which she said smells like rust and salt in Twilight, though it changes after she became a vampire. Bella is also shown in Breaking Dawn, to have a good mood climate, and is able to run away from the smell of human blood when she goes on her first hunting trip as a vampire.

Alice has been eager to become her friend after she saw their united future; she eventually gets her wish when Bella becomes romantically involved with Edward. Alice likes to dress her up and provide any kind of fashion to make her look pretty, although Bella dislikes the idea of fashion. Bella combines her name with her mother's to name her daughter "Renesmee" in honor of her mother and Esme. In the movie of New Moon, Bella comforts him that he cannot be damned to be a vampire. Renesmee's middle name of "Carlie" is derived from a combination of Carlisle and Charlie to honor them.

Please verify you are a human

However, after meeting Edward, she found the town much more comfortable, even calling it "home". As a vampire, she also dislikes the idea of feeding on humans, but is glad to have found the strength she needed to protect her loved ones. She hates being singled out, and doesn't like her birthday being celebrated.

After Edward and Bella begin dating, she tells him everything he wants to know about her, such as favorite color, books, or movies. On one occasion, Bella tells Edward her plan about teaching in high school, something inspired by her mother's profession in kindergarten. When Tyler Crowley's car almost hits Bella, Edward knocks her out of the way and shields her from the collision. She confronts him in the hospital, but he dismisses her accusations in an unsuccessful attempt to throw her off the scent, instead leaving her more suspicious than ever. During free time, she preferred to sit home and read, in part because she was extraordinarily clumsy. Her naturally responsible nature carried over into her schoolwork, where Bella was generally a straight-A student.

Please note that not all of the homes on this list are open to the public but I will make sure to specify which ones are available for you to visit vs which ones you can drive by. Eric Yorkie, like Mike Newton, immediately took an interest in Bella when she arrived in Forks. Bella described him as being the "overtly eager" chess club type, and he was one of the three boys (namely Mike, Tyler and himself) who asked Bella to the spring dance, though she declined all three. He develops a rivalry with Mike Newton, and later a dislike for Tyler as well. His friendship sways and mostly falls after Bella goes through a depression in the absence of Edward and the rest of the Cullen family.

I'm most likely enjoying a nice cup of tea while writing film reviews or entertainment news. Valory explores another bedroom, which she says is “Edward’s room or Bella’s aesthetic room.” A Stewart cardboard cutout stands in the corner. She further describes it as, “like you’re inside a Macy’s magazine.” There’s a shrine inside of the closet, which features trinkets and other Twilight home decors. Since the film debuted in 2008, Twilight fans have flocked to Oregon to get a sneak peek of the home.

I just finished a slide show with voice over that she can take to school on her iPad and share in class tomorrow, she will love sharing that. Restoring this charming five-bedroom, 1.5 bathroom home has truly been a labor of love for the Neufelds. The Twilight Swan House is located near the historic riverfront of St. Helens and is the perfect basecamp for visiting all of the other Twilight filming locations in the greater Portland area. Book your stay by visiting and be sure to follow the owners’ continuing journey with the property on social media by searching Twilight Swan House. I had heard that it was easy to find the  house in Valencia that was used for Bella’s Arizona house.

The Twilight Swan House AirBnB can sleep up to eight people, so bring your closest friends for a fun weekend. Downtown St. Helens and nearby Portland offer tons of fun things to do, or you can just hang out in the house and binge-watch all the Twilight films. Many of the original details from the movie can be seen in the house today, including this ship above the brick fireplace. The retro green kitchen still has its vintage appeal, and they say they have no plans to change it. Renting the Twilight-Swan house doesn't require immortality, but you will have to pay $330 a night.

The hollyhock was Aline’s favorite flower and was used as a theme throughout the house. Even if you cannot tour the home it is visible from the park and the city views are wonderful as well. I recommend stopping by for at least a quick visit if you can. I visited the Hollyhock House in February of 2020 right before things got crazy with COVID-19.

While her mother was impractical, absentminded and liked to shift from one interest to the next, Bella grew up as the more responsible and independent individual. At an early age, she took over most of the household responsibilities. Sometimes, she would feel like she was the adult and Renée was the child. Visiting a film location like this is a lot different than visiting a studio set; people actually live here, which kind of made us feel like the paparazzi. At first this made us all a little uneasy, but it didn’t take long for us to all get really in to it. Valory’s YouTube channel posted a house tour of the Swan home from Twilight.

How to Create Bubble Diagrams

bubble diagram interior design

It comes with a Bubble Diagram editor that is concise and intuitive, designers will not be disturbed by the cumbersome popups and messages. Designers often draw their bubble diagrams on paper with just one pencil or pen. As you can see, it’s a simplistic representation of a building floor plan, identifying the rooms and spaces the building will have along with how these rooms will be connected to one another.

Best Instagram Accounts to Follow for Architectural Sketching

Architecture bubble diagrams are a crucial part of the design process because they provide a visual representation of the relationships between different spaces within a building. By creating a bubble diagram, architects and designers can quickly and easily see how different areas relate to each other and identify any potential issues or challenges. This can help to inform decisions about the layout and design of the building and ensure that it meets the needs of the people who will be using it. The best design software can offer several benefits to interior designers and home stagers in creating visual representations of floor plans and designs.

The Best Interior Design Apps, Tools, and Software

However, when used in the wrong context or without taking into consideration practical considerations, bubble diagrams may result in inefficient designs or clutter. For those who are unfamiliar with bubble diagrams, these tips and tricks can help maximize the potential of this powerful diagramming method in interior design projects. It’s important to note that bubble diagrams are not typically used as architectural diagrams in the same way as other types of diagrams, such as floor plans or elevations. Rather, they are a tool for exploring and organizing spatial relationships in the early stages of design. When creating an impactful bubble diagram for interior design projects; it is essential to consider key elements such as defining functional zones and circulation paths, incorporating client requirements and preferences, and accounting for space constraints and proportions.

HomeByMe is one of the best interior design apps for when the ideas are racing. It’s browser-based - even mobile browsers are supported - and has Android and iOS apps, so you can map out thoughts for your home whenever and wherever inspiration strikes. Generally, the definition of an Architectural Bubble Diagram starts from a spatial planning phase, which relies mainly on gathering customer feedback in order to outline the building’s requirements.

Bubble diagrams are often used in the early stages of the design process, before more detailed plans are developed. Once the general layout and organization of spaces are determined, the diagram can be refined and developed into more detailed floor plans and elevations. This is a planning tool that allows groups or particularly important items to be represented simply and quickly when starting basic space planning. It allows the  relationships required between working groups or individuals to be depicted graphically. This in turn places them geographically in the alloted space.Essentially each item or group is a named bubble and that bubble is usually an approximation of the size of the item or group in relation to the others. It doesn’t have to be initially, as the bubble diagram is really there to place the items or groups in relationship to their environment or constraints and each other. It may just be a note but the point is that the item is listed and in spacial relationship to the other items.

Rethinking Building Materials

This lets you scan and measure the room you’re in - although we suspect this augmented reality feature would function a lot better in an unfurnished space. Now, whether you are a design student, a starting out professional in one of the design-related fields, or just somebody looking for a way to reimagine their own space, you have come to the right place. In this article, we will tell you all you need to know about what bubble diagrams in architecture is and how you can make impressive bubble diagrams using Boardmix, a great new online diagram maker. Bubble diagrams are most commonly used by designers at the beginning of a project when they first visualise what the layout of the room should look like and assess how different furniture and features can fit into it.

An architectural diagram is a visual representation that illustrates the structure, components, relationships, and behaviors of a system or application architecture. It typically consists of various elements, such as boxes, lines, arrows, and text, that depict the various components of a system, their interactions, and their relationships with each other. One of the primary benefits of using bubble diagrams lies in their ability to streamline communication and collaboration between designers, clients, and contractors. Integrating client requirements and preferences is a crucial step in the development of a successful bubble diagram; as it allows designers to align the spatial layout with the client’s lifestyle, priorities, and design aspirations. A Bubble Diagram is a very simple (hand) drawing that consists of roughly drawn bubbles (representing spaces) connected by solid lines, broken lines or wavy lines etc. to specify the type of relationship between the spaces. The program is a listing that itemizes the areas that should happen within the building.

Q. What types of software do interior designers use?

A bubble diagram is essentially a two-dimensional sketch of space divided into various parts based on their function and usage. These sections are “bubbles,” which offer information about how many areas need to be considered for the design project, as well as what functions should occur in each space. For instance, a bedroom may have several bubbles – each representing a sleeping area, dressing area, laundry area etc., with arrows pointing inward from each one-indicating that all these sections need to be considered when planning out an interior design project. 3) Analyze The Available Space & Program Elements – Evaluate how much space is available to work with and based off of that figure out which program elements (storage space, seating area etc.)are necessary depending on the brief requirements clients outlines earlier. Creating bubble diagrams for architecture projects can be done using various software tools, ranging from basic drawing applications to more specialized design software.

Bubble Diagrams for Design

For us, great interior design software makes it really easy to fully express a creative vision in a digital space. Similar to the best architecture software or the best 3D modeling software we reviewed, interior design software boast tools capable of mocking-up rooms, houses, and buildings in 2D and 3D, often with photorealistic assets and textures. Interior design software can be indispensable to designers as they plan, organize, and decorate spaces. The software can be used to collaborate with clients in determining the right design before committing to pricey projects.

It also allows you to invite others to collaborate on the bubble diagram and build it with you or give you real-time input while you are creating your design. If you are an architecture student, you are probably already familiar with the concept of the architectural bubble diagram. If you aren’t – and this is the first time you have been assigned the task to study these diagrams, have a look at the image at the top of this page. 4) Accurately Measure The Space – Using accurate measurements when constructing even basic bubble diagrams are important! In essence, bubble diagrams are about exploring and defining the “what” and “why” of space relationships, while schematic design begins to address the “how” in more detail, setting the stage for the detailed design work that follows.

Mastering the art of understanding and utilizing bubble diagrams is an important skill for interior designers, as these diagrams go beyond being mere circles and ovals on paper. They are powerful tools that help conceptualize and refine designs to create spaces that are both functional and visually appealing. Architecture bubble diagrams are a key tool used by architects and designers to help conceptualize and organize the layout of a building or space. These diagrams provide a simple, visual representation of the relationships between different areas and functions within a building. In this article, we will explore what architecture bubble diagrams are, how to create them, and why they are an essential part of the design process.

Just like the seating chart does with the marriage visitor checklist, a bubble diagram illustrates this system. These can be imported into the home design software and turned into a 3D model. It's all browser-based designing, however, so needs a constant inter connection. There is an Android app available, but this is designed for presenting designs created on the website. This roundup factors in costs, trial period offerings for testing out programs, system requirements, mobile app availability, and what kinds of learning resources to are offered to master their use. The bubble diagram allows you to quickly experiment with different spatial distributions, which can then be reviewed and refined, and analyze and verify each element of the project in a simple and immediate way, in order to find the optimal solution.

Treasures of the Rhine 2024 Itinerary Basel to Amsterdam Viking®

rhine river cruise viking

If you want to climb a church tower, I suggest going up to the top of the Notre-Dame in Strasbourg instead. Enjoy scenic cruising through the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO Site, passing iconic Lorelei Rock. Stroll through quaint Mainz and see an original Gutenberg Bible in the Gutenberg Museum. Visit Speyer and its landmark cathedral, the burial place of eight emperors. Explore Strasbourg, the cultural center of France’s Alsace region. Vineyard-flanked slopes and historic cities make this 8-day journey irresistible.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

We wandered mostly on our own, ducking into gelato shops and chocolate stores while enjoying the colorful, medieval feel. Also unlike many other cruises or guided tours, almost everything was included, which made it feel like a truly relaxing vacation. Recently, I sailed on my first Viking River Cruise up the Rhine River to explore Switzerland, Germany, France and The Netherlands on their classic ‘Rhine Getaway’ river cruise.

Recent Posts

You truly pass one castle every few minutes once you enter the Rhine Gorge. Our cruise Program Director also provided a running commentary on all of the things we were seeing as we sailed by. There’s something incredible about seeing these archaic stone structures from various angles as you move along the water. Some notable landmarks include the Dom zu Speyer (Speyer Cathedral) and the Altpörtel (Old Gate) directly west of there. The two are connected by the short Maximilianstraße, which serves as the main street in the historic district.

DAY 3 Cologne, Germany

River cruises are highly dependent on local water levels, and abnormally low water can negatively impact your trip by forcing the boat to re-route. Viking offers both pre and post extensions, which are a fun way to see more of Europe and combine the best of both worlds (guided group tours with individual trips). The number one reason why I like river cruises so much is because you get to see many small towns and sights in a leisurely fashion. You’ll have to make this decision for yourself, but beer and wine are included with each meal even if you don’t purchase the unlimited drink package. I did the math, and you’d basically have to drink two additional cocktails each day (outside of lunch and dinner) to make the package worthwhile.

Day 1: Arrive in Basel, Switzerland

Viking offered a short included tour, then we had about an hour or so to explore on our own. There are some other interesting churches a little further inland, or you could check out the many side alleys that branch off of the Maximilianstraße. After two long years of pandemic restrictions, Europe is fully open again!

Rudesheim am Rhein, Germany

We had lunch a couple times there and it’s quite nice to see the river views and sit outside. Another advantage to booking airfare through Viking is they also include round trip transfers. When I went on my cruise to Cuba, we received a group number each evening for the next day’s stop.

Save Money on Your Viking River Cruise

The trip provides an easy jumping-off point to scenic vineyards, bustling cities and ancient lore. More days means more to discover, with extension packages you can add before or after your Viking cruise or cruisetour. Tour highlights of the legendary Rhine River, then discover Nordic wonders by sea. Experience cultured Basel before setting sail for Germany’s storied Black Forest and France’s multicultural Strasbourg.

However, since we docked in the late afternoon, time felt even more limited here than in Speyer. At every port of call, Viking offered one included (free) tour. These tended to be walking tours that lasted about two hours and introduced guests to the various cities.

Marksburg Castle was the most fascinating castle I have ever visited, and I’ve visited quite a few. Our Viking River Rhine Cruise tour guide gave an intriguing glimpse into what life was like during the time of castles, kings, knights and princesses. Find out what made this castle so intriguing in this story, Marksburg Castle with Viking River Cruises. Rich with history, Heidelberg is home to Germany’s oldest university, the ruins of a romantic Renaissance castle, and the world’s largest wine barrel. Learn about these sites and more things to do in Heidelberg, Germany today.

I loved seeing the patchwork of vineyards on the steep mountainsides, but the coolest part of the day is seeing all the castles. Strasbourg is a fascinating city that’s much larger than Breisach. Due to its location on the Rhine, Strasbourg has a unique mix of French and German cultural elements.

Sample flavors of the Alsace region, explore Frankfurt, one of Europe’s high-powered business hubs, and visit lesser-known historic towns in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Turreted castles and a fascinating history exude a rich tapestry of medieval charm. Viking introduces the definitive way to explore the world in comfort. We call them Ocean & River Voyages, an innovative marriage of our award-winning river and ocean cruises. On cruises booked in some countries, such as the U.K., flights are included in the fare.

Enjoy an onboard lunch as you marvel at this scenic passage, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where castles overlook the river from their hilltop posts. Stay current with special offers, news and destination-focused content. Uncork new discoveries as you raise a glass of Riesling on our acclaimed Rhine River cruises through Switzerland, Germany and The Netherlands. See how the Rhine, Main and Moselle river systems unfold to create a spellbinding display of storybook villages, Dutch windmills, German vineyards and splendid UNESCO Sites. We chose to do 2 optionals and on the other days, relaxed on board or went into town to explore on our own!

I helped myself to endless madeleines and double dark chocolate muffins. The ships are well designed to really maximize space and cabins feature a giant closet and tons of drawers to put away your clothes, should you wish to fully unpack. River cruising is a much more intimate experience, with unreserved seating at meal times so you get to mix and mingle with almost everyone on board by the end (if you want!). Because of this, they have the flexibility to turn each propeller a full 360 degrees for precision and smooth sailing so you shouldn’t experience any seasickness on board. One thing I liked about sailing with Viking is how leisurely the day to day pace is.

However, if you’d rather explore one of the stops on your own (or even stay on the ship), you are more than welcome to skip any of the tours. Cologne is the largest city this cruise stops in, so there wasn’t enough time to explore all that I wanted to. The included Viking tour served as a brief introduction to the riverfront and Kölner Dom, the city’s massive iconic cathedral. For your best first time river cruise experience, don't be tempted to miss the daily pre-dinner port talk about the next day's port of call and activities.
